Start your day with a greater sense of awareness and well being. Join artist, exhibit creator, and meditation practitioner/teacher, Jeffrey Dorsey and experience the benefits of this ancient form of technology. Guided meditation sessions will include simple (but profound) skillful techniques (seated meditation, walking meditation, use of mantra, etc.) that you can practice on your own anytime, anywhere. Regardless of whether you are trying to restart your practice or this is your first time, no experience is necessary. All are welcome to attend one or more sessions.

Each session will consist of a brief introduction about meditation, instructions on technique(s), followed by guided practice(s), and time for questions (you are welcome to leave early if you need to). Participants may leave early if needed. Participants are welcome to bring their own yoga mats, blocks, cushions, blankets, etc.

A Quiet Return with Yvette Shipman

Join us for a gentle afternoon of reflection and presence amidst the circle of paintings in Another Light: Making Space for Healing by Jeffrey Dorsey—with yvette shipman, Onika Reigns of Black Dream Escape, and Freesoul.

1:00pm: Spend time experiencing the portraits, writings, and audio of twelve intimate stories, and allow the space to hold you.

1:30 pm: Settle into a guided sit and meditation, softening into stillness, writing, or simply being. The sweet sounds of ease, offered by Freesoul on sound bowls, will accompany us in a quiet celebration of arrival, resilience, and the power of being together.

In a world that often demands our exhaustion, this gathering is a form of resistance. As Cole Arthur Riley reminds us:“Resistance survives in the arms of the collective.” Come, bring your journal for reflections, and join us in sacred pause and shared breath.

Tea will be served—BYOM: Bring Your Own Mug.

Closing Celebration: Artist Reflection and Dance Party

FREE  |  DOORS OPEN AT 6:30

7 - 8pm: Join artist/creator Jeffrey Dorsey for reflections on the exhibit. Dorsey will offer some guiding questions and invite questions and conversation about the topic of making space.

8 - 10pm: Then we will transform the space one last time into a Community Dance Party.

Rest / Stop: Evening in-person with Jeffrey Dorsey

What does it look like to stop and just rest, together? Rest / Stop is the opposite of a Workshop. To rest and stop is a form of refusal and quiet protest of the machine-like activities we perform all day. There’s nothing to produce, nothing to learn. Exhibit creator and rest practitioner Jeffrey Dorsey will guide us through the most simple of activities—resting. Let’s remember together, all the way back to basics. Think kindergarten rest time for any age. Bring your blanket, pillow, a stuffed buddy. Wear your pj's if you like. This is a come-as-you-are session. Jeffrey will provide a brief introduction with simple guides and soothing music to aid your relaxation.

All are welcome, no experience is necessary. ;-)
